Average of The 5 People You Spend Most Time With
There’s something to be said about being in a private group or attending seo masterminds with so many motivated online entrepreneurs that’s constantly pushing for more success.
“Show me your friends, & I’ll show you your future”
Everyone wants to stay one step ahead of their competition to get the best results and the top Google rankings. However, working alone won’t always put you on the path to success. You need to find your flow state of mind to keep you focused and finding ways to get your mindset ready to graft.
Instead of seeing other people as competing against you, why not work with them so you can both progress and enjoy the benefits? By combining your individual skills, you’re much more likely to create a successful strategy which works well for both of you.
Synergy – A Rising Tide Lifts All Boats
Anyone who knows me well will laugh at the number of times I use the word SYNERGY. But I love the synergy definition where “the interaction of elements that when combined produce a total effect that is greater than the sum of the individual elements, contributions”. A relationship or joint venture is part of synergising. Quote about my favourite word in the world – synergy:
Synergy means “two heads are better than one.” Synergising is the habit of creative cooperation. It is teamwork, open-mindedness, and the adventure of finding new solutions to old problems. But it doesn’t just happen on its own.
It’s a process, and through that process, people bring all their personal experience and expertise to the table. Together, they can produce far better results that they could individually. Synergy lets us discover jointly things we are much less likely to discover by ourselves. It is the idea that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. One plus one equals three, or six, or sixty–you name it.
When people begin to interact together genuinely, and they’re open to each other’s influence, they begin to gain new insight. The capability of inventing new approaches is increased exponentially because of differences.
Synergy – A Rising Tide Lifts All Boats
Valuing differences is what really drives synergy. Do you truly value the mental, emotional, and psychological differences among people? Or do you wish everyone would just agree with you so you could all get along? Many people mistake uniformity for unity; sameness for oneness. One word–boring! Differences should be seen as strengths, not weaknesses. They add zest to life.
When you look to carry out joint ventures, another term I use is ‘a rising tide 0lifts all boats’. What exactly do I mean here? Well, my mentality to joint ventures is that the relationship has got to suit both parties. I personally go above and beyond to make sure all my JVs are happy. Providing all my staff to assist the person to scale things out and regularly discussing techniques we can adapt on the sites. These tips and tricks we test out if successful can be used by both parties on personal websites hence the ‘rising tide lifts all boats’. In other words, the “rising tide” is the new tricks you develop. The “lifts all boats” is the implementation you can do on all of your websites.

Build Relationships with Others
If you take the time to build relationships with different companies and SEO professionals, you’ll definitely see the benefits. There might be something that you’re an expert in, which they don’t know anything about, and vice versa. This creates an opportunity for you to become a valuable resource by offering your skills to help them grow their business. You can then get help from them to improve your own strategies, and this is a win-win situation. Here is an amazing example you should take on board and look to joint venture on projects throughout your life:
Recently, I was reading about draft horses which are very large, muscular animals that, throughout history, have been used for pulling great loads and moving very heavy objects. A single draft horse can pull a load up to 8,000 pounds. The strength involved in this is hard to imagine. So then we can speculate what would happen if we hooked up two draft horses to a load. If you instantly thought two draft horses could pull 16,000 pounds if one draft horse can pull 8,000 pounds, you would be wrong. Two draft horses pulling together cannot pull twice as much as one. They can actually pull three times as much. The two draft horses that can each pull 8,000 pounds alone can pull 24,000 pounds working together.
More on Build Relationships with Others
The horses are teaching us a very clear lesson in teamwork, but they still have more to teach us. If the two horses that are pulling together have trained with one another and have worked together before, they can’t just pull three times as much working together as they can by themselves. The two trained horses in tandem can actually pull 32,000 pounds, which is a load four times as heavy as either of the horses could pull by themselves.
The powerful lessons that these magnificent draft horses can teach us involves not only teamwork but coordinated and trained collaboration. No one lives or works alone as the proverbial island unto themselves.
The story above I found fascinating but it did not shock me one but there are so many examples of how synergy works like imagine you are both trying to build a boat to row across a river. You have all of the materials, but your competitor has all of the tools. Instead of trying to compete against each other when neither of you has the right equipment, you could work together to build the boat and both row across the river. Take a look at this video below which explains this point in more detail at ‘Habit 6’ along with other habits of highly effective people:
Boosting your Company’s Online Presence
The same principles apply when creating an SEO strategy to boost your company’s online presence. Whether you need to improve your on-page content, get more links to your website or develop a more engaging social media presence. Both of you may be lacking certain knowledge and experience, but put your heads together and you’ve got everything you need to succeed.
When working alone you can be limited on how much time you have in the day to get things done. By creating a synergy with other people you’re able to delegate tasks and work as a team to achieve your goals. This is a lot more beneficial when you’re looking to expand your strategy over a larger scale. Working alone can be hard to motivate yourself and when teaming up with a partner you can encourage each other every day to improve, adapt and develop.
Unconscious Assimilation
Unconscious Assimilation (otherwise known as learning by osmosis) refers to the idea of having a ‘porous brain’. When you are in a working environment your mind subconsciously listens to other conversations and absorbs this knowledge. This means you can actively learn new things (from subconsciously listening to others) whilst you are getting on with your own work.
There are dissolved molecules which go from high concentration to low concentration, but due to learning by osmosis, you can still learn things even though your concentration levels are low.
Working with other people and listening to them subconsciously will help you learn more as you will absorb this information without even trying. Our Digital Workshop promotes unconscious assimilation and we find it a great way to learn more.
Find New Opportunities
Not only can networking in SEO help you meet new people, but it can also help you find interesting opportunities. There are plenty of things you could get involved in just through meeting and talking with other people. Joint ventures, partnerships, potential writing opportunities and even extra sales could be found if you get yourself out there.
However, it’s important to make sure that you only go ahead with opportunities that are achievable for you and your business. Don’t take on everything that comes your way just because you think something might possibly come out of it. Otherwise, you could end up being stuck in a cycle of unfinished ventures which don’t get you anywhere. We are always looking for new joint ventures with people and here explains it more.
What’s the point in stressing yourself out with ten new tasks that you can’t complete when you could just choose three and take time to do them properly? If you do it in the right way, working with others can have many benefits for your company. This will also help you progress with your online strategies in many ways.
Collaboration is the New Competition
In any industry, you’ll have businesses or people who you see as competition. You may feel as though you are competing with them to get the most sales or create the best products. While healthy competition can be good for encouraging growth, it can sometimes be counterproductive. The phrase ‘two heads are better than one’ is true in a lot of cases and is certainly relevant here. If you and someone else are both experts in your field, why not work together to create something even bigger and better?
Instead of seeing them as competitors, see them as someone you can learn from. Even the most highly experienced specialists in any subject will still have things to learn. This is a perfect example of how collaborating with someone else benefits you both. You’ll be able to teach them things you know and vice versa. Working this way can give you both a massive boost instead of giving one of you a small advantage over the other. The digital world is certainly a place where synergising is key because as the algorithms are changing weekly and there is enough money to be made online for all parties to profit from.
Getting Advice from Influencers
You might not be able to start a joint venture with every SEO professional you meet, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still learn from them. By connecting with influential people in your niche, you’re in a position to get advice and expand your knowledge. Be sure to get advice from experts who have the relevant experience, and not just opinions from people who don’t have the knowledge.
A simple bit of guidance or help from someone else can often point you in the right direction and bring about loads of new ideas. This is why it’s so important to talk to others and find out the information you wouldn’t get otherwise. You could find advice from influential people by reading online blogs, engaging on social media or attending conferences and events where they may be speaking.
Top Tip: Joining groups on Facebook or following influencers on Twitter and Instagram is a great way to get advice from people within the same industry. For example, if you’re interested in web development, you could post a question in a web development group on Facebook. You could even reply to a tweet from an influencer or comment on their Instagram post with a question. Even if they don’t reply, someone else might see it and offer an answer to your question.
Becoming More Confident in Yourself
By attending networking events and meeting with new people, you’ll be able to develop your own self-confidence. If you push yourself you make conversation regularly, you’ll soon find yourself being much more comfortable in getting to know other business owners.
This is a skill which is really important when you’re looking to make new relationships and develop your company further. Having a more confident outlook also offers plenty of personal benefits. This can, in turn, improve your quality of life away from work. You’ll also be able to enjoy feeling positive about helping other people by offering your own advice and guidance on topics you might be more experienced in.
Surround Yourself with Positivity
Building relationships with the wrong people can have a significant effect on your own outlook and business strategies. If you’re surrounding yourself with negative people who don’t have the same goals as you, the whole thing will be destined for failure. By having positive and motivating influences, you’ll be much more likely to succeed and bring your company along with you.
Working in SEO can sometimes be frustrating when you’re trying out new strategies that don’t always get the result that you want. However, the way you react to these situations is the most important thing. You could look at it negatively and think you’re awful and that nothing ever works and you should just give up. Or, you could look at it positively and see it as eliminating a technique that won’t work. This is where the power of your mindset is crucial to the way you think. Therefore from doing this, you can get closer to something that will work.
Summary
Going it alone in SEO is usually very difficult and you won’t always see the results that you want. By working together with different people you can develop your own skills and help each other to progress further. There is no doubt that networking is vital when it comes to digital marketing. It can benefit everyone a lot more than simply competing with each other and holding onto your own knowledge.

Do you network enough and have the attitude one plus one equals three. Synergising is the future and the more people you network with the more dots you can create to join together giving more opportunities in life.
The Sum of the Parts is Greater than the Whole
Synergy is the creation of a whole that is greater than the simple sum of its parts. The term synergy comes from the Attic Greek word συνεργία synergia from synergos, συνεργός, meaning “working together”. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. In other words, when individual parts are connected together to form one entity, they are worth more than if the parts were in silos.
Synergism comes from the Greek word “synergos” meaning working together. It refers to the interaction between two or more “things” when the combined effect is greater than if you added the “things” on their own (a type of “when is one plus one is greater than two” effect).
